Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries

Rev. Tony Toth, Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries

I was born in Jackson, Mississippi to a missionary family. I am the youngest of four. My family came back from the mission field for my birth and a few months later went back down to Mexico to serve as church planters in southern Mexico. We came back to the states when I was seven and lived in several areas in southern California. I eventually graduated from Arcadia High School and my parents went back down to Mexico where they are still currently serving.

In my high school years I developed a passion for youth ministry and upon graduation, called up my old youth pastor and inquired about working with him. I was able to go to a private Christian college while ministering with my good friend and mentor Steve Sweet at Laguna Presbyterian Church. I worked in Laguna all through my Bachelor's and my Master's of Divinity at Fuller Seminary. After 11 years as the Junior High Director I finished my ordination process and took the Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries here at Sequim Community Church.

The Lord granted me grace and mercy by allowing me to find a wonderful wife, Claire.  She and I have been married since Feb. 2005 and in Aug. 2008 we became proud parents to Gavin Amadeus and in Nov 2010 we welcomed his baby brother Xavier Liam. We are enjoying Sequim and our life together as we try to make a difference in the lives of the young people in this community.

Responsibilities: I oversee all programming for Middle and High School students. I believe that youth ministry is one of the most strategic areas of ministry. The youth are the future of the church and their spiritual grounding is the foundation that the church will be built upon. Our High School program (CrossRoads) and Middle School program (The Edge) each meet on Sunday morning and Mid-week. Weekly programming consists of games, praise songs, Biblically based talks and small groups. I oversee the selection and training of volunteer leadership teams for each program. They commit to helping for a year at a time. Besides our weekly programs we have monthly events, camps, or retreats.

My Vision for Ministry: As a youth group we exist to fulfill the two great commandments that Jesus gave to love God and love our neighbor and the commission to Go and Make disciples. Our youth group "ID" is to "Invite" and "Disciple". Our Leadership Goal is to see the young people of Sequim become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ and our Leadership Game Plan is to provide programs that "Encounter", "Educate" and "Equip" students for life and faith.

When I relax: I enjoy reading sci-fi and fantasy books, playing video games and watching movies. I experience God more easily through his creation and when I have the time I appreciate all the outdoor opportunities the Olympic Peninsula has to offer. I use to surf in California but have found it difficult to brave the cold waters of the northwest. I love music and playing guitar and dream of being a rock star. My wife Claire and sons Gavin and Xavier are the coolest people in the world to hang out with.
