SCC Small Group ~ Fall-Spring
The vision of SCC is “Responding to the Great Commission by encouraging unchurched people to join us as we become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.” Small group ministry directly implements this mission in a number of ways, and the following is our vision for what we would love to see lived out.
1. GROWING IN GOD’S GRACE: A caring Christian community is developed as people depend upon God’s Spirit to be loving, honest, and compassionate. This type of community can only be formed as we focus first on God and then on one another. Growing involves actual numerical growth as well, and the welcoming of new people. Our groups are not “Holy Huddles”, and there should always be an attitude of helping newcomers to feel included.
2. EXPLORING GOD’S WORD: Because we are centered on Jesus Christ and believe that He is fully revealed to us in the Bible, it is God’s word that becomes our primary source of discovery and discussion. Through the Bible we grow in our knowledge of God and more clearly understand ourselves. Our small group curriculum reflects this commitment to learn and apply the Bible to our lives.
3. BECOMING TRUE FRIENDS: We want our groups to become key connecting points for church life– a place to move forward together with others in our Christian life. We strive to organize groups that are in the same life stage, such as young families or early retirees, so that deeper friendships develop and reasons to get together outside the group time more naturally occur. Our goal as a church is to give every person in our midst the opportunity to experience the life transforming power of a small group.
4. PRACTICING PRAYER: Healthy dynamic groups create an environment that encourages each member to express their thoughts, concerns, struggles, and points of view. Our time with each other is in the context of a growing experience of communicating with God.
5. EXPERIENCING GOD’S MISSION: Being like Jesus Christ means putting feet to our faith. Each group is asked to choose an avenue of service either to the church and/or to our community. This can be a regular weekly or monthly commitment or on a project-to-project basis. We also help the groups to become informed and involved in mission efforts we support as a church.
To get started, just fill out Small Group Registration above, and we’ll work to find a group that is a good fit for you. Groups meet every day of the week, at various times; East, West and all over town!
